If Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich have an anthem, this is the one.
The one that made them famous, their first Top Ten British hit, their first International success.
The one the group came back to again and again, revived in a new version in the 80′s.
Within the BBC House, “Hold Tight” appeared in their first ever session, broadcast on 30 April 1966, and their last, aired on 15 September 1969, as they had already announced that Dave Dee would start a solo career. In between, “Hold Tight” appeared in Saturday Club on 20 May 1967, making it the only one of their hits to be featured in three different versions !
The first, stamping drums and fuzz guitar, was a live version of their hit. The second was a speeded up version, still with the same guitar solo. The last was much heavier, slowed down, fit for the 1969 sound.
Three takes, but all of them sound better than any cover version of this track, and “Hold Tight” is one of Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich’s most covered tunes.
