Hard To Love You (BBC)

A great performance from Dave Dee, with Dozy, Beaky and Tich joining on background vocals. Even more baroque than an ocarina solo on the Troggs’ “Wild Thing”, here we have Beaky playing the solo part on paper and comb (making it oriental sounding). And NME reviewer Allen Evans described Mick’s work as rock-steady beat drumming.

It was broadcast on the BBC’s “Easy Beat” on January 15th, and Brian Matthew introduced it such: A groovy group to open the show. These are the current fave rave of Europe, and our top of the bill stars today!
As a matter of fact, when Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich recorded that show, “Bend It” had just lost the N°1 position in the German charts, and “Hard to Love You” was in the Top Ten.

That same week, Bravo Magazine in Germany published the most beautiful poster of the group. The caption read :
Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich lagen die Fans bei ihrer großen Deutschland-Tournee zu Füßen.
Paßt nicht ganz zum Titel ihrer neuen Platte “Hard To Love You”, was auf gut deutsch heißt: “Es ist schwer, dich zu lieben.” Denn wer liebt Englands bunteste Beater nicht?

Which means:
Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich had their fans at their feet during their big German Tour. Doesn’t suit their new record “Hard To Love You”, because who woudn’t love England’s most colourful Beatsters ?
